Alright, someone has to request it..
I guess there are a lot of gamers wondering what a damn kind of marriage Bethesda offered us. Short wedding ceremony after buying a creepy amulet, cooking and getting 100 gold every 24 hours? I dont need food because i have my healing spell. And 100 gold? I give a damn about 100 gold, this is nothing. Neither of it is worth calling it a marriage life. Is this a game for children? I mean there are scary dragons, creepy undead, monsters and who knows what else. Fallout 3 has hookers. New Vegas has even more hookers. And Skyrim is offering a marriage reduced to some kind of a small trading company? Admit it, you have been disappointed too. Where are the classic medieval brothels? There are already some mods / savegames referring to the great 'Game of thrones' series. But where is 'Littlefingers special services corporation' in Skyrim? Bethesda got completely rid of adult content This is a fantasy game with a lot of great stuff. But the oldest business on earth is absolutely missing. Think of it: There is this big hero after his normal daily work (hunting down bandits, exploring dark caves, killing some dragons..The usual stuff for a dragonborn ). He walks into the next tavern, drinks some beer, talks about the newest rumors, listens to the bards singing about the dragonborn..And then he realizes that this is all he can expect of a day I mean who am i? A badass axe throwing dragonborn or Al Bundy? After the daily dragon slaying i want to realy kick back in my local tavern. I am a damn killingmachine, collecting the bones of my enemies to craft them into an armor. I want music, wine and women to spend my battle earned money with style Since the authors of the popular sexmods from Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas appear to be off business, just hoping 'someone will make another sexmod again, just wait for it' is not very promising to me. So my question: Is here anyone able/willing/planning to create what i politely call an 'adult mod'? I already checked if converting AP from New Vegas to Skyrim is promising, as far as i know it is not I dont have Oblivion, so i cant say anything about a conversion from the 'sexlivion' mod into Skyrim. Since the last time we updated our list of the best Skyrim Special Edition mods the Skyrim Script Extender has been made compatible with it. You can download it here (it'll be labelled 'Current SE build'). Turn off automatic updates for Skyrim Special Edition once it's installed, as the creation club still receives patches which routinely break the Script Extender until modders update it.
With the Script Extender modders can now alter this version of Bethesda's RPG as drastically as Oldrim. Near-essentials like SkyUI are now available in this slightly prettier (it does have nicer shadows), and more stable (you can alt-tab as much as you like) version of Skyrim. To be fair, there were other changes as well, like these.
If you're playing the Skyrim Special Edition and looking for the best mods available, look no further. Some of these mods can be found on Bethesda's site and downloaded while in-game, but the links we'll post all point to the repository at Nexus Mods. Mods added in the latest update of this list have been marked with a ⭐.
Vortex ⭐
For downloading, installing, and managing these mods and others, we recommend Vortex. It's an extremely useful utility, and it works with a number of other games like Fallout 3 and 4, The Witcher series, the Darks Souls games, XCOM 2, and lots more.
SkyUI ⭐
The heavens parted, golden saints sang, and SkyUI was finally supported by Skyrim Special Edition. This interface replacer makes Skyrim feel like it was designed for mouse controls, and lets you filter and sort inventory based on weight, value, damage and the like. Also adds an in-game mod configuration menu several other mods rely on.
A Quality World Map ⭐
Skyrim's map is functional but boring. A Quality World Map offers multiple ways to fix it. It can replace the map with a much more detailed world texture, with colors that help delineate the separate areas much more obviously, but there's also an option to have a paper map, with a more Oblivion look, if that's your thing.
Legacy of the Dragonborn ⭐
Adds a gallery you can fill with unique items, a museum to your achievements that is also a library, a storage facility, a questline of its own, and a place to learn archeology complete with its own perks. While the original version of this Skyrim mod has been adapted across from Oldrim, there's also an update in the works specifically for Special Edition which will remap the building to make it larger and more like a real museum. It won't be compatible with the current version, so it might be worth holding off until Legacy V5 comes out.
The Asteria Dwemer Airship ⭐
There are player home mods to suit all tastes, but the Asteria is a particularly nice one—a flying ship with all mod cons, by which I mean storage space and crafting tables. It's permanently docked, however, and can't be moved around, though it does have a teleporter for a more immersive alternative to fast-travel. Flyable skyship mods still haven't made the jump over from vanilla Skyrim, unfortunately.
Inigo ⭐
Maybe you don't think a blue Khajiit who follows you around commenting on everything and being sarcastic about Lydia is what Skyrim needs, but trust us on this. Inigo is a follower with tons of dialogue, some tied to his own questline and more that crops up at appropriate times depending on the location you're at. He can be told where to go and what to do by whistling, and will follow you even if you've got an existing companion, chatting away with them thanks to skilfully repurposed voice lines.
Unofficial Skyrim Patch
This mod is a compendium of hundreds of fixes for bugs, text, objects, items, quests, and gameplay elements assembled by prolific modder Arthmoor. The patch is designed to be as compatible as possible with other mods. If you've got a few hours, you can read through the patch notes.
Opening Scene Overhaul
This mod, by elderscrolliangamer, changes and enhances Skyrim's opening sequence by restoring dialogue that Bethesda chose to cut, but which is still present in the game files. With that content restored, you'll learn more about the world you're preparing to inhabit by listening in on additional conversations and seeing full sequences that were snipped before release. Best of all, if you choose to side with the Stormcloaks, you'll actually be able to escape Helgen with Ulfric himself at your side.
Open Cities
It's more than a little immersion-breaking in Skyrim to enter a city through a gate and encounter a loading screen. Open Cities, by Arthmoor, aims for more of a Morrowind feel: the cities aren't instances, they're part of the larger world. Stroll right in—or ride in on horseback—without a break in your experience, and these cities will feel more like real places than loaded-in maps.
Phenderix Magic World
This impressively robust magic mod adds new locations like The School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the magical town of Manantis, and even a new magical dimension to explore. It also adds hundreds of new spells from all schools of magic, plus lots of magic weapons, over a dozen new followers, and a quest to get you started.
Alternate Start—Live Another Life
If you're playing Special Edition, you're starting from scratch whether you're a newcomer to Skyrim or a veteran. Why not start your new game as someone other than the Dragonborn? Alternate Start—again, by Arthmoor—is a roleplaying mod that gives you choices on how you'd like to begin your next playthrough. Are you a patron at in inn, a visitor arriving by boat, a prisoner in a jail cell, or the member of a guild? You can start as a soldier, an outlaw, a hunter, or even a vampire. It's a great way to re-experience Skyrim from a different perspective.
Relationship Dialogue Overhaul
This mod by cloudedtruth adds thousands of lines of voiced dialogue for NPCs, directed at making you feel as if you have a closer and more personal relationship with followers and friends. Your spouse, if you have one, will no longer sound like a random follower, but address you in a more personal manner, and those you've angered will have a host of new insults to hurl your way.
Diverse Dragons Collection
Despite the Special Edition's visual overhaul, its dragons are still a bit ho-hum. This mod, contributed to by a large collection of modders, adds 28 new and unique dragons with different models and textures, and capable of over a dozen new breath attacks and abilities. The dragons come in different ranks as well, to ensure you have a challenge no matter what your level.
Achievements Mod Enabler
Just because you're modding doesn't mean you're cheating (necessarily). So why does the SSE disable achievements if you've got mods running? Stick it to 'em by using this plugin from xSHADOWMANx that allows you to earn achievements even while using mods.
Static Mesh Improvements
While the SSE adds plenty of enhanced visuals, it doesn't do a thing to improve the original game's low-poly meshes. This mod edits hundreds of 3D models placed in thousands of different locations for items like furniture, clutter, architectural elements, and landscape objects to make them look nicer and more realistic.
Total Character Makeover
Skyrim's NPCs already looked dated when the game was first released, and they certainly haven't aged well. The SSE might improve the looks of the world, but it doesn't touch its citizens, so this mod from Scaria should be on your list. It gives everyone in the game (including your avatar) a facelift with more detailed textures that won't kneecap your framerate, and without making characters look out of place.
True 3D Sound for Headphones
'This mod enables true 3D sound for Skyrim SE by using a so called HRTF to simulate binaural hearing using normal stereo headphones. You will hear exactly from which direction a sound is coming from.' I don't know exactly what that first sentence means, but I understand the second one. Make the SSE more realistic for your ears with this mod from CptYouaredead.
You also might want to check out Immersive Sounds.
Frostfall and Campfire

Download link (Campfire)
Looking to turn SSE into a survival experience? Then bundle up and look no further. These mods from Chesko make the frosty world of Skyrim more dangerous yet more immersive and enjoyable with a system that makes you manage your temperature in the cold climate. Hypothermia is an issue, especially if you swim through icy water, so you'll have to dress warmly, and camping elements include craftable tents, torches, and other gear. There's even a crafting skill system.
Also, check out Wet and Cold, which adds weather-dependent visual effects and sounds.
Cutting Room Floor
Another big mod from Arthmoor restores loads of content that exists in SSE's data files but wasn't implemented in the game. Numerous locations, NPCs, dialogue, quests, and items have been brought into the light, and the game is richer for it. Diablo 1 best class.
The Forgotten City
Skyrim's got lots of adventure, but here's about 10 hours more courtesy of writer and developer Nick Pearce. Play detective and solve a murder mystery while exploring a massive, ancient city. It's got excellent, award-winning writing, a non-linear story, fantastic voice acting by a large cast, an enjoyable original soundtrack, and even a touch of time travel. Here's our write-up of it.
Ars Metallica—Smithing Enhancement
Unless you're playing as a metal-plated tank who swings an enormous two-handed sword around, there's not a lot of use for smithing. Archers, thieves, and other stealthy characters have no issues finding light armor on their adventures, so there's never been much reason to make it themselves. This mod by Arthmoor gives slippery sorts reasons to learn smithing, by letting them forge arrows, lockpicks, and guild-specific armor, as well as melt down bulkier armor they'd never actually wear into ingots.
On PC, Fallout 4 is an endless sea of possibility. Anything you can imagine, you can probably download as a customization and insert it into the game.
Quality of life improvements. Characters from movies, TV shows, and books. Ridiculous weapons that shouldn’t exist. Oh, and titties. Lots and lots of titties.

Massive NSFW warning!
Fallout 4’s burgeoning custom “mod” scene has a naughty side to it, as is tradition for Bethesda games released on the PC. It’s a cliché now, really. Here’s what came up when I searched for “Skyrim mod”—just those two words—on YouTube:
At the center of this all is a popular mod called ‘Caliente’s Beautiful Bodies Edition,’ a Skyrim modification that gives players more control over the customization of female characters. Created by a modder who (appropriately) goes by ‘Caliente,’ CBBE is a large part of the reason people associate “Skyrim modding” with naked vixens. CBBE characters spread through the internet with the speed of, well, naked pictures of attractive women. As of this writing, CBBE has been downloaded a whopping 8.2 million times.

I caught up with Caliente via email to ask about the vast, racy modding empire inspired by CBBE. A programmer with a love for digital art, CBBE was actually the first mod Caliente released to the public. Caliente made it from scratch, using 3D animation programs such as Blender.
“The popularity was a little unexpected,” Caliente said. “It feels really amazing to have so many people using and enjoying my work, and I like thinking that I’ve helped make the games a little more enjoyable for people. The fame is strange..and kind of fun sometimes..but since it’s relegated to an internet name, it’s sort of like having a secret identity.”

Caliente initially saw the Skyrim version of CBBE as a way to “fix” the character models.“The vanilla artwork [in Bethesda games] doesn’t appeal to me very much,” Caliente said. “I find the proportions to be fairly bulky, with wide shoulders and smaller hips to my taste.”
“At the same time, bodies come in a lot of different shapes, and people like different things, so I like to be able to provide a way for people to get the looks and variety they want, even if it doesn’t match what I would use myself,” Caliente said.
Caliente said that tweaking the character models was important to the modder because it helps with playing dress-up, something Caliente is passionate about. Caliente views bodies and clothes as a means of expression that “cool guns, powerful statistics, and buckets of gore” can’t account for.
“All of the outfits were bulky and formless and not much fun to put on,” the modder said. “One thing I love to do in games is to find interesting and pretty outfits for my character, so I wanted to make the default ones look better in my eyes. Starting from that basic idea, I decided to work on a body replacement, in order to have a prettier figure to fit the clothes to.”
Here’s a distinction that Caliente feels strongly about: CBBE is not a nudity tool necessarily, but rather a body modification mod. It just also happens to be used in a very specific way by some players. At the same time, you can’t blame anyone for immediately thinking about nudity, given how the mod is presented online:

Caliente says that the original hope was that, by making the mod public, other people would make more custom outfits for specialized Skyrim models. However, Caliente got wrapped up in making the tool as user-friendly as possible, allowing the mod to cater to whatever wants a player might have. It’s no wonder that it exploded in the way that it did.
Five years after the first version of CBBE, there’s a Fallout 4 version of the mod, too. Though it’s been out for less than a month, it’s already been downloaded more than 340,000 times, making it one of the most popular Fallout 4 mods around.
The mod has become so big that Caliente now enlists the help of two contributors, Jeir and Ousnius, to work on CBBE as well. Caliente estimates that they have spent much more time helping create mods for Fallout 4 than actually playing the game.

While working on this story, I naturally decided to take CBBE for a spin. Caliente’s base CBBE mod lets players pick between a few different presets for female characters: slim, curvy, and vanilla. Players also have control over the model’s lingerie (or lack of it). Using the mod, a character can go from looking like this standard Bethesda model…

The basic version of the mod doesn’t offer many options, but things get much more detailed with Caliente’s “Body Slide and Outfit Studio,” a tool that can be used in conjunction to CBBE for custom characters. It’s not nearly as popular as the main CBBE mod—at current, Body Slide has been downloaded a mere 97,000 times—but it’s a tool that grants you ultimate control over your character. Every attribute you can think of (and many that you probably can’t) has a slider that manipulates a specific part of the body, like so:
Some of the options, like “butt size,” are straightforward. There are unusual options, as well—you can tweak armpit height, for example. Then you have sliders for “melons,” which is apparently different from “breast size” and “cleavage.” A few even left me wondering, like, what does “Fantasy” mean, exactly? What does it mean when I max out the “Fantasy” slider? I have no idea.
As you adjust the sliders, you watch your character take shape on the right side. It’s a curious experience. On the one hand, I know that Fallout 4 itself is not a particularly sexy game. Romance is relegated to passing a dice roll on your Charisma stat, and getting lucky simply means watching the game fade to a black screen. In theory, adding curvier, more traditionally sexy women to the game feels somewhat subversive. At the same time, adjusting all the sliders in Body Slide feels similar to filling out an application at the DMV.

Therein lies the brilliance of Caliente’s work, though: By making mods like CBBE and Body Slide, the modder has given curious players the tools they need to make mods of their own without having to do the heavy lifting. Whatever Caliente doesn’t include, other people are happy to create themselves, modding Caliente’s mod into a more modded mod.
I spoke to a modder named Fiddlestickz, for example, who created a CBBE mod that lets players grow pubic hair in a few different styles. Why not? One of the designs is actually based on an actual porn actress, Riley Reid. Most of them, though, are just manifestations of Fiddlestickz’s own ideals. Similarly, Caliente says the presets that CBBE comes bundled with are just figures that the modders and their collaborators like.

Many NSFW mods floating around the internet can serve as a window into the libido of the savviest RPG fans. It’s striking how many of these mods are billed in terms of creating THE dream girl: this one is the mod that’s sculpted the perfect woman, or that this one is the ultimate fantasy girl.
There’s a limit to the fantasy surrounding these mods, though. Some promise “lore-friendly” titillation, so they’ll provide, ultra-sexy characters caked in dust, grime, and displaying visible injuries. Hey, just because you’re an ultimate fantasy bombshell doesn’t mean you’re impervious to the hazards of the wasteland. Or something like that.

Several modders I spoke to cited the importance of alterations that don’t take the player out of the moment. Ubercharge, the creator of the body mod in the picture above, put it to me this way: “If you look how dirty/dusty/rough [the] environment of Fallout 4 [is], suddenly [CBBE bodies look out of place]. Perfect bodies will break you out of the immersion. There is no use for nice bodies if your brain doesn’t believe it’s real.” The Fallout 4 Nexus, which is the biggest modding hub for the game around, even has a lore-friendly search category.

Nudity mods have a certain reputation, and onlookers can be judgmental about that. The modders I spoke to know that, of course. All the same, Caliente emphasized how “friendly, helpful [and] smart” modders are. Caliente pointed out that people often don’t get paid for the tremendous amount of work they put into mods—Caliente has gotten some donations from fans, but some of the programs used to make the content are expensive, too. There’s no profit in it.
“[Nudity modders are] certainly not any more maladjusted or depraved than someone who spends days creating a mod that enhances the violence and gore of combat,” Caliente said. “The main difference being that the latter mod isn’t considered an adult mod.”
“I hate it when a person using CBBE (or other body mod) is accused of being perverted or misogynistic when their use is clearly not,” Caliente said. “And, there’s a longstanding, prevailing opinion that nudity is offensive, and there are trolls who like to put down anyone who makes or uses that kind of content.”
Another modder I spoke to, XunAmarox, is the creator of “CBBE Innies”—a mod that transforms vaginas in Fallout 4. You know how belly buttons can be innies or outies? Similar concept, except with labia. Helpfully, the mod page has a diagram that can show you the difference:
“I suppose you could say that [the mod is] based on someone very particular,” XunAmarox said. “Namely, me. Yep, I’ve got an innie pussy myself.” XunAmarox plays Fallout 4 with her own mod—but that doesn’t mean she runs around the game completely naked, either.
“I wear clothes, or armor,” XunAmarox said. “I play the game about like anyone else.” This is not an unusual answer among the modders I spoke to for this article; for lots of people, it’s the idea of the thing that matters. Kind of like when people treat themselves to nice lingerie in real life even if they’re not planning to throw down with anybody in particular.
“I think most people probably aren’t using nude mods for the same reasons that they use porn,” XunAmarox said. “I think a lot of people use them because the human body is beautiful—and I don’t even mean that in a sexual way. You typically have better detail with body and texture mods than you’d have otherwise, and it adds realism to games as well. After all, not every NPC out there is going to have the same exact pair of white lingerie.”
By now, you’ve probably noticed that there are far more nudity mods for women characters than for male characters. There’s actually a logistical reason for that, XunAmarox told me. Not only are female mods higher in demand, male nudity mods—which do exist—are harder to make. She explained that penises and balls require mesh editing and 3D modeling, which is a lot of effort for something that may not gain traction among the community.
When I asked Caliente about that, I was told me that female models in Bethesda games get the short end of the stick.

“The quality of male artwork seems to be superior to that of the female ones, and in many cases it’s clear that the male art is done first then later re-purposed for the female versions,” Caliente said. “This leads to less motivation to improve what’s not broken.”
Caliente says that the CBBE mods don’t have an “intentional” focus on women. Rather, Caliente prefers to play as women in games, and the mod grew from wanting to improve the modder’s own experience.
“Given the time, I’d absolutely love to provide a similar mod for the male bodies too,” Caliente said. “For Skyrim, other modders got to it before I did, and it became less useful for me to enter the field with my own version.
“Fallout 4 doesn’t have an option yet, of course, so if I can get to it before someone else does, I’ll try to make one that people enjoy!”
